Generally those who are thought of as rich have money; a nice huge house with garage space to be a house in itself , they have a fancy car, nice clothes, a cute dog or two, they can purchase a 5$ Starbucks coffee twice a day and not think twice about it, or maybe some golden toilet paper. Right?
When you see people like that do you wish you had what they had? I don’t know many people who wish they had nothing at all. Usually we wish we could have more money, more things, more fun toys. Then we would be happy, right?
Where your treasure is, that’s where your heart is.
Say you put your mind to being successful, rich, famous, and finally have more. Once you have more of what you wanted then you just want more…and more….and more….and well….it never ends.
Life only tends to get a bit harder and harder the more we have. The more we have, the more we have to worry about how we will get even more than what we have now.
This past year I had the most amazing privilege of traveling around to 19 different countries seeing some of the wealthiest and some of the poorest people in the world. One thing that is for sure is that if you have clothes on your back, you know when you will eat your next meal, know where you will sleep at night, or have any spare change in your pocket you are part of the wealthiest people in the world!
YOU are RICH!
All I can think about are the little kids from Asia who don’t have shoes but live with such joy and were happy when I would hold their hand.
The woman in Africa who was laying on her floor for over a year because she is dying of a tumor and still has hope and feels blessed that I would sit with her for half an hour.
The professor at the orphanage in Kenya who has worked so hard for an education and feels honored that I would spend time in his class and go on a walk with him.
My dear friend Carolina in Honduras who’s biggest dream in the world would be to fly on an airplane once in her life and was in tears and held her body in my arms when I drew her a picture of us and wrote a note in spanish. “Tu eres mi amiga por siempre. Te Amo.” (You are forever my friend, I love you.)
I don’t want to waste my time thinking I don’t have enough to give. I always have more than enough to give. That being with my time, energy, love, support, finances, words, notes, whatever!
It doesn’t matter if you are in the slums of Africa or in the Beverly Hills of Los Angeles. You can be generous always!
I desire to be generous and thoughtful with ALL and everything I have! Living as if I am rich, because I am!
How could this world change if every person gave something everyday?
How would your heart change?
The fact that I know I am taken care of! I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back. Heck, I am sitting in my parents amazing backyard with gorgeous flowers and fountains as I type on my own laptop. I have nothing to worry about. I am rich!
Proberbs 11:24 “One gives freely, yet grows richer; another withholds what he should give and only suffer.”
Why do we actually need more and more and more for ourselves? We don’t. We need more so we can absolutely give more.
Gosh, there is something so freeing about giving someone something you have that they need. To not second guess yourself but see a need and you being able to be rich enough to meet it.
This is why from today forward, for the next month I want to purposely look for someone in need so I can use my riches to bless them.
Isn’t that what we are supposed to do when we are rich?
